Masonic Care Community - Tompkins Chapel Restoration

Utica, New York

Construction Notes

Masonic Care Community – Tompkins Chapel Restoration ($552,000)
Project Manager:
Larry Giglio
Superintendent: John Foster

We have been awarded the contract to restore the iconic chapel at the Masonic Care Community of NY's Utica Campus. This building erected in 1911 will have the steeple removed, structure reinforced and a new steeple installed.

Photos below show the steeple being removed. A temporary roof built by Gaetano was raised and secured in its place for protection from the weather and accessibility while working in the steeple base and attic of the building. The new steel sub-framing and belfry perimeter are being built below the temporary structure.

The ornate exterior cornice work and roof will also be replaced, along with the clock mechanisms and the bell system will be restored. Work began mid-summer and is expected to be complete by fall 2015. The Project Engineer is Almy & Assoicates and the Project Architect is March Associates both of Utica, NY.
